Christine Tucker

Chief of Staff

Christine TuckerChristine Tucker is chief of staff at Catholic Relief Services. As a member of the executive leadership team, she assists the president in the direction and representation of the agency mission, strategy and operations.

Before becoming chief of staff, Ms. Tucker was acting executive vice president of U.S. Operations. During this time, she provided chief leadership and management of programs serving Catholics in the United States. Prior to this, Ms. Tucker served as regional director for the Mid-Atlantic region, where she worked with Catholic institutions in the United States and other like-minded organizations to promote global solidarity through awareness and engagement in CRS programs around the world.

Two other headquarters assignments included director of peacebuilding initiatives, providing strategic leadership and training for outreach to Catholics in the United States, and director of HIV and AIDS global response during which time she had oversight over the development of an integrated and coordinated approach to the HIV pandemic. She also represented CRS in the Catholic response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita through Catholic Charities.

Ms. Tucker had several overseas assignments with CRS. Her most recent was as regional director for the Middle East/North Africa region. Based in Cairo, Ms. Tucker had oversight over CRS emergency humanitarian responses in Iraq, Palestine and Turkey, as well as management of ongoing programs in 3 countries countries and expansion to 5 new countries. Prior to this assignment, Ms. Tucker was CRS regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean, a period that saw extensive humanitarian efforts after the devastation from Hurricane Mitch in Central America. These efforts pioneered partnerships between dioceses in the United States with those in Central America as part of the emergency response. This period also included the opening of the first CRS program with the Catholic Church in Cuba.

Throughout her years with CRS, Ms. Tucker has been closely involved in the incorporation of the "justice lens" process. This has included the development of a justice reflection and tools to incorporate it into programming, as well as the development of guiding principles and an effort to engage CRS' U.S. constituency in building global solidarity.

Early in her career in CRS, Ms. Tucker's assignments included managing programs in Colombia, Peru, Chile and Bolivia.

Ms. Tucker is a former Peace Corps volunteer in Colomiba. She holds an M.A. in international relations from George Washington University and a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Kansas.
