Storms, Quakes Rock Asia-Pacific Regions
First, typhoons and earthquakes struck Southeast Asia and the Pacific. A week later, the worst flooding in 60 years swept southern India. It's hard to comprehend the depth of misery and the level of destruction brought on by these natural disasters, especially after their stories have faded from the headlines. Often, the scale of the destruction isn't realized until weeks—sometimes months—later. Disease outbreaks commonly follow disasters like these.
In the Pacific Islands, Catholic Relief Services is working with the Catholic Church to provide shelter, food, water, clothing and much more. In Asia, Catholic Relief Services is also working with our Caritas partners to deliver immediate aid—and plan for long-term relief. But the needs are tremendous, and will only grow with time.
