Mexican Women Empowered By New Business Skills
The microfinance program Bancomunidad is helping women in Oaxaca, Mexico, save money and receive small loans to start their own businesses.
Coordinated by Catholic Relief Services partner Centro de Desarrollo Comunitario Centéotl, the program empowers women—who often are the heads of their households—to plan for the future using their new financial skills. Each woman in the program receives an initial loan of about $75.
