Photo Tour: Aid Reaches Flooded Philippines
Typhoon Ketsana struck the Philippines capital of Manila and surrounding areas on September 26. Massive flooding killed more than 250 people and forced hundreds of thousands to flee. Those who lost their homes are sleeping in gymnasiums, schools and other public areas. Others have found refuge on the second floor of their homes. Catholic Relief Services is on the ground with our Caritas partner, providing thousands of families with rice, canned goods, noodles and vegetable oil—as well as emergency supplies, including blankets, mosquito nets, sleeping mats and soap.
Composed of more than 7,000 islands in the South Pacific, the Philippines faces the threat of deadly typhoons each year. Today, hundreds of volunteers have pitched in to pack the items and distribute to families.
